Introduction Module
Modern law firms are faced with more choices, challenges, and opportunities in building their legal businesses and practices. This requires more than a cursory appreciation for what a successful law practice requires - it demands a toolkit, mindset, and an intention that leads the firm on the designer's journey. Meanwhile, the experience economy is training all of us (as consumers) to crave seamless experiences across all the analog, tech, and human touchpoints that businesses use to attract us, sell to us, deliver to us, and retain us. Digital transformation is making this more of a reality while increasing pressure on businesses to look beyond just technology and into how we, as humans and businesses, need to interact with the technology.
*RECOMMENDATION: Please watch both videos below. They will give you both an introductory foundation on some of the things you will learn and reference throughout the program. This is just a taste as we will dig deeper once you we officially begin the program.
Firms are made up of practice groups and teams. Each of these has its own business model. Business Design is the leading discipline for understanding and building new businesses. Applied properly, business design will create value for clients AND the law firm. This video is a brief overview of its core components.
Two Mega-Trends to Know and Use
Modern businesses, including law practices, must be mindful to
incorporate the Experience Economy and Digital Transformation
realities into their business models. This video provides an introduction to both.
Module 1: The Organizational Client
This program is focused on better understanding the business of our clients. These businesses can range from straightforward, small-scale operations to complex and expansive corporations.
Regardless of the scale or complexity, it's crucial for us, as providers of legal services, to thoroughly understand what these businesses are and what they do. One of the most effective ways to gain insights into a business is by unraveling and understanding its business model.

Module 3: The Human Client & The Pitch
This module is focused on moving us toward the human clients. We must work to understand the motivations and constraints of the various stakeholders that will be impacted by client value ideas - stakeholders inside the client and our firm.
We then turn to pulling all of this program's content together to help you craft a pitch. The pitch is a key moment in the life of a client value idea and contains all the work of discovering and stress-testing the idea.
